Advent begins, this year, on November 28, 2010. Are you ready for Advent? That’s sort of a redundant double double question, huh?
Advent is the period beginning four Sundays before Christmas, observed in commemoration of the coming of Christ into the world. The word Advent derives from the Latin word meaning coming. The Lord is coming.
We tend to use ‘objects’ that help celebrate and commemorate the advent season. Most typical are the Advent Ring/Wreath and the Advent Calendar – which is generally directed to children.
