Putting On The Armor of God

Ephesians 6:10-18

When you wake up in the morning, do you feel that the uncertainty of the day warrants a plan? You know… a plan to actually survive and get through the day? Do you forgo the morning news, just to avoid filling your heart and mind with trepidation that stems from the things of this earth that seem scary, dangerous and evil. Because we, as Christians, are not of this world it is very common for us to wake up feeling a little out of sorts and just perhaps like we are in really foreign territory. The Bible tells us that we are actually “Citizens of Heaven” and that this world is not our home… it is currently being governed by the enemy. BUT… it also tells us that God is sovereign and (even though) we, at times, suffer… not only will He have the final say… He has provided us a Comforter in the form of His Holy Spirit AND he has laid out very specific advice on how we are to navigate through each and every day. He has told us HOW to protect ourselves…

Ephesians 6 tells us, how to ‘put on’ safety equipment (sorta like putting on clothes) in order to help us navigate all of the landmines and fiery arrows that may be headed our way each day. Paul wrote in Ephesians, chapter 6 (NIV)…

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

The Armor of God isn’t just a fun story to teach our children in Sunday School, it’s actually essential for each and every day of our lives. So… because we all need reminders, CGP has created a few items that are perfect for gift giving that will gently remind the recipient of not only the importance of the Armor, but also what it consists of. Take a quick look… perhaps even you may want one of these for yourself!
