In case you are ever in need of another analogy for sin in our life… try this one… or maybe not 🙂

Okay, so I was on a quick walk this morning… along my normal route… praying and thanking God for who He is and what He is doing in my life… and I kept having to step over… how shall I say it… dog doo.  I found it to be smelly, irritating and I wondered who had left their ‘refuse’ in the middle of the road and why had they not properly disposed of it.

My mind made a leap to how dog doo is sorta like sin (bear with me… it worked in my mind… maybe you’ll be able to connect too :-))  Dog doo smells, it’s offensive, it leaves stains, it kills grass, and others can step into it.  If dog doo is properly disposed of by the ‘owner’, it can be bagged and put into the proper trash receptacle and it is gone… forever… no harm, no foul.

Isn’t that sorta like our sins… if we don’t clean ’em up immediately, they begin to smell… they are there for all to see (sometimes)… or they are hidden from view but slowly and silently eating away at all that they touch… and if we keep walking by them, the ‘accuser’ (satan) uses them to make us feel guilty… not to mention how our sin affects others… almost always someone else is affected… either directly or indirectly.  Proverbs 28:13 says, ‘People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy.‘

There is a ‘proper’ way to clean up our sin… Confess it , pick it up, give it to Christ and allow him to wrap it in his forgiveness and mercy and keep it …. forever!  He has promised as much in Romans 11:27  ‘And this is my covenant with them, that I will take away their sins.’  1 John 1:9 says, ‘But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.’

So, everytime you are confronted with dog doo, remember this post and think about sin in your life and if there are any that you need to clean up and dispose of properly.
