You’ve probably heard your walls creaking when the temperature drops drastically during a cold spell.  And you’ve probably heard about the ‘writing on the wall’ – often used as an idiom relating to forecasting a dim future or great demise that is headed your way — which by the way originated in the book of Daniel (5.1-31 : where the hand appears and writes on the wall).

But have you ever heard your walls speak?  Of course, I’m asking this metaphorically.  When you look at your walls, do they say anything to you, whisper anything, scream?  

Most humans enjoy putting things on their walls.  Photographs, paintings and artwork all serve as memory keepers, style statements and as media that create emotion within the observer.  For example, the photograph of my mother not only brings back memories of her life, but it also generally evokes an emotion of sentiment and longing.  A painting of an old homestead on a lake in the county evokes an emotion of wishful thinking, peacefulness and serenity. 

So far this is only creating emotion and feelings.  But how can we make our walls speak?

The kind of speaking that I relish is that from the voice of my Savior.  This is why we place scripture on our walls.  Every time I glance at a stunning Landscape, Skyscape, Seascape, Riverscape, or Cityscape my breath is taken and my attention is caught.  Add the words from our Lord and let the speaking begin.  We know that His Word is live and active (Heb 4.12)… it changes lives… it redeems… it heals, lifts up, encourages, takes away fear… and oh so much more.  Don’t we all need that kind of powerful stuff on our walls?!  Not just for us, but for anyone and everyone who enters your home?  Make Him known… claim His promises as your very own!

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 2 Timothy 3.16
