The Fog of Worry

Don’t you get frustrated when the fog of worry or fear settles in over you? Personally, I get SO frustrated with myself when I am captivated by something worrisome that I really have to stop EVERYTHING that I am doing and pray for release. Isn’t it just like the enemy… to know our lever and pull it any time day or night? With my family, he has an entire switchboard of levers to work with…. Fears, worries, concerns, frets, etc. of all shapes and sizes. The enemy loves to do this to faithful followers of Christ to drive a wedge between us and our Lord… not to mention distract us from our work at hand – which happens to be ministry related.

As our faith in God and relationship with Christ have grown over the years, both my husband and I have learned how to call a spade, ‘a spade’. Now we don’t obsess on fear, but know that when fear arises relating to money, kids safety, health, etc. that they are really just fiery arrows from the enemy trying to create a ‘brush fire’ in our hearts that can rapidly spread through our family. Praise God that His Living Word (the Bible) has a lot to say about fear and that as the Ultimate Promisekeeper, He made some very specific promises relating to fear.

Just for you… here are some of our favorite scriptures that directly combat worry and fear. Jot them down, memorize them… find a couple that hook you and let them minister to you as they seep into your soul and dry up the fog!

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.  Joshua 1:9

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.   He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.  Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.  You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.  Psalm 23

Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.  Psalm 37:7

Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.  Psalm 55:22

He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.  Psalm 62:6

He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me.  Psalm 144:2

But now, this is what the LORD says— he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel:  “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.”  Isaiah 43:1

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.  John 14:27
